How do I find who handles a noise complaint where I live?

  • City of Los Angeles: the LAPD non-emergency line, 877-ASK-LAPD (877-275-5273), for a party or loud music, and the LAPD Noise Enforcement Team for early or late construction. See who to call about noise in Los Angeles.
  • A city with its own police or code enforcement: the city. Use the table below for the cities we have read; for any other city, LA County Public Health says to call the city and ask to make a noise complaint.
  • Unincorporated LA County: Public Health for a business, construction or demolition, (626) 430-5201; for other noise, your local police department, usually a Sheriff’s station.

What if a city’s own pages give two different numbers?

Where one city’s official pages disagree, both are shown here with their own source and date, and neither is picked for you. Confirm with the City before you call.

Which cities’ pages do not say who takes noise complaints?

For these cities we read the official pages below on 24 October 2026 (and, for Culver City, Palmdale, El Monte and Santa Fe Springs, on 21 October) and none says who handles a noise complaint, so no number is listed and the County line applies: call the city and ask to make a noise complaint. They are in alphabetical order: Burbank, Compton, Culver City, Downey, El Monte, Glendale, Lancaster, Palmdale, Pomona and Santa Fe Springs. A police non-emergency number on one of these pages is for police response in general, not a statement that the line takes noise complaints.

Who handles noise complaints in unincorporated Los Angeles County?

LA County Public Health investigates noise from businesses, construction and demolition in unincorporated areas, at (626) 430-5201, under Title 12, Chapter 12.08 of the County Code. For other noise, such as loud music or a party, the County says to call your local police department, which in unincorporated communities is usually a Sheriff’s station. The Sheriff’s station list gives each station’s address and phone number. Public Health also posts a temporary change to the County noise ordinance for construction hours; see the noise ordinance and construction hours.

My city is not on this list. What do I do?

Use the city’s own website, or call its main number and ask to make a noise complaint; the city should direct you to the right department. Quiet LA lists a city only after reading its official page, and it does not guess a number. Each city also has its own rules; see the noise ordinance and construction hours. Cities with their own page on Quiet LA are in noise by area.

What about airports, helicopters and freeways?

Those have their own contacts, whichever city you are in: see airport noise in Los Angeles County and helicopter noise, and for freeways, Caltrans in who to call about noise in Los Angeles.

Look up an address on the map

The map shows modeled road, train and aircraft sources near an address, which is background for a complaint, not proof. It does not model parties, construction or neighbors. See Limits, How it’s made and Sources & methods.
