What does the map show near Santa Monica Airport?
In the 24 h view the map adds an aircraft estimate to road and train noise. For Santa Monica it starts from the City’s published contours for 2019, the 60, 65, 70 and 75 CNEL lines, which Quiet LA received on . Quiet LA stretches the lines outward to 55 CNEL, using the spacing of the airport’s own lines, and interpolates between them. Nothing is added outside 55 CNEL.
Day, Evening and Night never include aircraft. The Aircraft switch also replays recorded flights of one sample day as an illustration, with no aircraft identified. The map does not show helicopters, individual overflights or how many flights there are on a given day. See helicopter noise in Los Angeles.
Where does the Santa Monica Airport contour data come from?
The City of Santa Monica publishes the airport’s statistics on its Airport Operations Statistics page: monthly noise reports, annual operations reports and annual CNEL noise contours reports from 2010 through calendar year 2025, a noise and operations dashboard, and a departures log. The contours Quiet LA draws are the 2019 ones listed on Sources & methods, so they may differ from the City’s newest report. How the estimate is made: How it’s made.
Which areas lie inside the Santa Monica Airport 65 CNEL contour?
This list uses the airport’s published 65 CNEL contour: the line in Santa Monica Airport (2019), received by Quiet LA on . It is the outermost official line the map starts from. An area page is listed when more than 0.01 square kilometers of the area lie inside that line, found by laying the official contour over the area boundaries.

The lists are alphabetical and in no other order. Being on one says nothing about the sound at any address in the area: the contour comes from the document named above, and Quiet LA’s aircraft estimate is derived from it, in the 24 h view only. Each area page has its own modeled figures.
How do I report Santa Monica Airport noise?
The City’s page on aircraft noise inquiries says to contact the airport noise office by online report form, by email or by phone, at (310) 458-8692. The FAA regulates aircraft noise standards and flight procedures; for a local airport it says to contact the airport first, and for general concerns it points to its ANCIR Portal. Other noise has other contacts: see who to call about noise in Los Angeles.
